Disc golf, also known as Frisbee golf, has seen a rise in popularity across the country as a lifetime fitness sport enjoyed by all ages. The game is played in the same format as traditional golf with players using discs to negotiate the course. The 18-hole course consists of "flyways" (fairways) and targets on poles that serve as the holes. The "pole hole" has a basket on a that is designed to catch the thrown disc. As in traditional golf where the object is to finish hole in the fewest strokes, the object of disc golf is to finish each hole in the fewest throws.
The State Championships were hosted by local club, DiscIthaca ( www.discithaca.com ).
