Cortland, NY - The Cortland County Chamber includes another event to the already exciting day at the Business Showcase, Saturday, May 6th from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Sponsored by the Cortland Regional Sports Council, the showcase will include a "Sports & Recreation Expo" highlighting the numerous and diverse activities that are available in Cortland County.

The idea mentioned to the Machell Phelps, Executive director of CRCS by Mary Kay Marks, a local sports enthusiast and marketing consultant. "Cortland has so many activities for both children and adults although unless you know where and when to sign up for these activities - you may be out of luck. I shared my idea with Machell and she was able to take it to the next level. Garry VanGorder, Executive Director of the Cortland County Chamber of Commerce, suggested adding it to the Business Showcase and now it's a reality!" stated Marks.

The Sports and Recreation Expo will on the ice arena side of the J. M. McDonald Sports Complex and the newly formed committee is actively seeking local organizations to participate with hands-on exhibits for visitors. The event joins the Business Showcase and visitors will be able to attend both events. Demonstrations from local groups will be performed including audience participation activities. Last year, the same area was used for demonstration from the YMCA Fitness Instructors and the Gymnastics Team, Bailey's Karate, the US Women's Hand Ball Team, etc.. A similar schedule plans to be showcased this year but the format includes the surrounding area filled with tables rented by sports and recreation organization demonstrating fun activities to local visitors.

Jeremy Clark, current Cortland resident, 2005/06 Busch East Nascar Driver will be on hand with his car to sign autographs and allow for pictures.

"We hope to see exhibitors also using this time for program sign ups. Already the Cortland County Youth Soccer Association (formerly, the Greater Homer Youth Soccer Association) and the Cortland City Youth Bureau Baseball League will have registration forms and information available for program sign ups. We'd like to see a few more organization use this time in the same way" urges Machell Phelps.

The list of activities being targeted is everything from team sports, dancing, and music to orienteering, darts and motorized sports. If you have a sports or recreational activity that you promote to residents of Cortland County then this fun filled day is for you. Tables will be available on a limited basis with priority going to organizations with a booth in the Business Showcase. The difference in the two venues is the Sports & Recreation Expo exhibitors will be demonstrating to or engaging participates in an activity where the Business Showcase is mainly informative.
