Hello YMCA Cortland Canoe Classic Participants,

This information is included to relay some additional information regarding the 2006 YMCA Cortland Canoe Classic. This event is planned by a committee of volunteers and each year we try to improve. The following letter will reiterate points of concern and explain any changes.

DOWNLOAD THE REGISTRATION FORM HERE !

First: Safety
Safety is essential to the race committee. As always we will provide at least one sweeper boat to follow the racers and provide assistance to anyone in need. It is also imperative that racers stop and help anyone in trouble. The safety of all participants is more important than getting the fastest time. If you stop and think that your time was effected, please let us know.

The date of this race (April 30th)... directly in the heart of spring! Please be aware that during the spring thawing and rainfall, the current of the Tioghnioga River can often be very strong. We would not recommend anyone participate in this event if you do not have some previous experience in a canoe/kayak.

Second: The Extras
This year we will provide a shuttle vehicle to take dry clothes to the finish. Please pack clothes in a bag marked with your name and race number (given at registration). Leave these clothes at the registration table and they will be waiting for you at the finish.

As always, there will be food and entertainment at the finish (Yaman Park). We plan this for your benefit. Please stay after you finish the race, to enjoy these festivities as you wait for the prizes!

Third: Starting
In an effort to provide more timely race results and awards this year, we are trying the following: All Amateur racers will start first followed by the Stock and Recreational racers. Racers will go out in pairs (2 boats at a time) in 30 second intervals. Participants are asked to have their boats ready and staged in pairs on the grass or in the water before the race start - 10:00 AM.

Fourth: Classes
As defined by NYMCRA :
The official list of boats eligible to compete in the NYMCRA C-2 Stock Class for 2006 is as follows:

• Wenonah: Jensen 17, Jensen 18, 18' Sundowner, Minnesota II, Odyssey, Escape, and Escapade.

• Grasse River Boatworks: Traveler 17 - 5, Traveler 18 -6

• Mad River: Lamoille, Horizon.

• Bell Canoe Works: Northstar, Northwind, Northwoods

The Amateur class includes Competition Cruisers, Pro boats, Wenonah SCR

The Recreation class includes all boats not specifically designed for racing - Aluminum, Coleman, etc.

If you are still unsure what class you should be in, please explain in detail what boat you will be using and we will place you in the appropriate class.

* NOTE: Stock class does NOT include Wenonah SCR canoes

Finally: Have Fun
Race well, have fun, keep the round side down! As always, we would love to hear your constructive feedback. Please e-mail any questions, comments, or concerns to the Cortland YMCA ( cortlandymca@gmail.com ).

Thank you!

Regards,
Cortland Canoe Classic Committee
